The Bird Banter Podcast #189 with Wayne Klockner

Wayne Klockner is the executive director of the American Birding Association, and kindly agreed to be a guest on the podcast. Wayne took over as ABA director after a time of some turmoil, and the organization seems to be doing nicely under his guidance. We talk about his early birding years, his time working for the Nature Conservancy, and his role and work for the ABA.
One thing Wayne talks about are the ABA young birder camps. Several prominent birders who have been on the podcast in the past talk about how young birder camps were really influential in their development as birders. I recall that Dorian Anderson, George Armistead and others have mentioned their experiences at birder camps.
We talk briefly about ABA Community, the social media app of the ABA. Check it out, I am hopeful that it will become more widely used.
I especially enjoyed hearing about Wayne’s experiences at the Kaikura Peninsula in New Zealand. I don’t know if this is the boat experience Wayne discusses, but here is a link to off shore birding boats. It sounds great!
We talk about my previous episode about my Colombia trip with Mollee Brown. Check it out below.

Thanks for following and listening. Until next time, good birding and good day!
